Although the points John Frame makes in "Medical Ethics" are well-argued (assuming the truth of a Christian worldview) this book is extremely limited in scope. Exclusive of two appendices, the book contains just 73 pages of text. Much of it is devoted to the issues of patient autonomy and informed consent (Chapter 2) and end-of-life issues such as the distinctions between killing and letting die and ordinary and extraordinary care Chapter 3). Absent are many of the commonly-discussed issues in medical ethics such as experimental treatments, gene-therapy, the allocation of scarce medical resources, abortion, the care of terminally-ill newborn, etc., etc. For the most part, cutting-edge issues are ignored. For someone seeking a very basic introduction covering a few of the many issues in medical ethics, this book is adequate.

Frame's book proved profoundly helpful to me as I had to make the last medical decisions for both of my parents. Uncertainty and guilt can overwhelm decision makers because they don't have time to think things through and because they have not prepared in advance. This book will help overcome, at least, in the preparation. Thank you John Frame.
