For those applicants with limited bar prep funds (who can't even afford BarEssays.com), this book is a godsend. This book emphasizes the right way to start essays and the correct way to analyze and write bar essays. The authors' comments regarding the importance of precise rule statements prompted me to go to the Cal Bar website and examine its acceptable essay answers ----very few of the Cal Bar answers contained the long Barbri-like rule statements that I had been trying to memorize. So, I revised my strategy. By learning what not to write, I was driven to learn what to write to pass the bar.
There is a website - BarEssays.com - that provides basically the same type of material as this book (real examples of prior high and low scoring California Bar Exam essays with commentary), but BarEssays provides thousands of these essays instead of the limited amount in this book.
A good supplemental resource, but how accurate is the scoring? For an experiment, I submitted a "perfect" Bar/Bri answer to both Bar/Bri and a private tutoring resource to be named later. BarBri said 65 (based on their model answer) and the 3rd party (I will only identify them as being located on Willshire Blvd in LA) said that the "perfect" answer was a 55. Therefore, don't get discouraged-- you're probably doing better than you think and the outside companies are just out to make a buck telling you that you're worse than you really are....Caveat Emptor.....Work hard my friends....there are many of us out there in the same spot....
